There are many hypnosis for birth programs available, how is HypnoBirthing different?
Many hypnosis programs contain similar elements to what you'll find in a HypnoBirthing class, but there's only one original program with all these tools and techniques. HypnoBirthing, the Mongan Method, is the original hypnosis for birth course and has over 25 years of amazing results. The HypnoBirthing Institute has been collecting data from HypnoBirthing couples for 25+ years, which is used to provide comprehensive training to HypnoBirthing educators. Thousands of couples have been able to experience a safer, easier, and more comfortable birth, thanks to HypnoBirthing.
Do I need to take a separate childbirth education class?
No, HypnoBirthing is a comprehensive childbirth education course of 5 sessions, 2.5hrs each. In addition to preparing you for a safe and comfortable birth, HypnoBirthing classes discuss breastfeeding/bottle feeding and postpartum.
I think I may want an epidural, can I still take the HypnoBirthing course?
Absolutely! HypnoBirthing isn't necessarily about not having any interventions but it's about avoiding routine and unnecessary ones being done to birthing people & their babies. It's ensuring that parents are active participants and advocates and are involved in the decision making process of any interventions that do happen.
The course emphasizes physiologic birthing, however the HypnoBirthing classes support all birthing plans. It is important to have comfort techniques and breathing exercises up until the point of getting an epidural. It is also vital to understand what the epidural entails & optimal timing if you want to avoid a cesarean and artificial chemicals.
When should I start the course?
The earlier you start, the more time you’ll have to condition your body and mind to relaxation, and make sure your care provider respects your birthing preferences. I recommend starting the course between week 20 to week 30 of your pregnancy. You will not be turned away if you are beyond week 30. People in all stages of pregnancy can benefit from the HypnoBirthing techniques.
Can I bring my partner?
Yes, the HypnoBirthing course is designed to educate the person giving birth and their birth companion. In Class 4 we talk in detail about the importance of the role of the birth companion. If you are single you are encouraged to bring a friend, family member or doula- someone who will offer encouraging support :) .
